LOTF - Short Story Connection

Read the attached story, The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, and answer the following questions in a Word document or separate piece of paper. Hand them in at the end of class.
1. What unusual technology in the story suggests a futuristic setting? How does the nursery work? Is it functioning properly in the story?
2. What mental and emotional effects does the veldt have on a) the children b) the parents and c) the psychologist?
3. What explanation can you give for the father's wallet and the mother's scarf being in the nursery? What does this suggest about the events to follow?
4. How does the author create and maintain suspense?
5. Find allusions to mythology and children's literature and explain their roles in the story.
6. What comments does Bradbury's story make about a) the generation gap b) the nature of children and c) the influence of technology on people today? What is your response to each of these comments?
